William
Barr is “weel kent” in
Scotland’s Male Voice Choral Circles. He is in demand both as a conductor and
as an arranger of music for the male voice having trained choristers for radio,
television and live performances from Mayfest to
Songs of Praise. He is particularly proud to have been involved in the choral
training for the Songs of Praise Programme in memory of the Queen Mother, which
was broadcast live from Glamis Kirk on the day
following her death.
William
was Musical Director for the hugely successful “Music for Malawi” concert held
in the Royal Concert Hall Glasgow in February 2006, directed the Male Voice
evening in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery series of concerts conducting a choir of
200 male voices and the 180 Years of Song celebration in Hamilton Town House in
February 2005.
He
has conducted concerts in France, Northern Ireland and England as well as
venues in his own Scotland including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
He
arranged “Rab’s theme” for the BBC’s Videoguiden Programme and worked with Colin MacIntyre for his CD “The Water”.
In
December 2008 he assisted in the short film “Auld Lang Syne”
that helped to launch the Year of Homecoming for the Scottish Government.
He
has also appeared on BBC Scotland’s radio programme MacAulay and Co.
Future
commitments include working with Tern Television.
William
is also Chairman of the Lanarkshire Male Voice Festival Music Committee and
Conductor of the Hamilton Caledonian Bowling Club Male Voice Choir.
